cato increases march 2010 same store sales by 24%

According to figures pulled by the fine folks at About.com, Cato Fashions enjoyed a 24% increase in same store sales for March 2010–the highest number recorded for the month, and beating out retail giants like Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Old Navy, and Aeropostale. Could we attribute this growth to some smart creative messaging, combined with bloody efficient targeting in the company’s most profitable markets? Perhaps. Perhaps.

This is Brittney Lunsford. Say “hello.” Kindly, softly, so we don’t scare her away.

Brittney’s originally from Louisville, Kentucky–making her spiritually related to Muhammad Ali, Thomas Edison, Tom Cruise, and Dian Fossey. Speaking of! We’re not entirely convinced yet that’s she’s just not here to quietly observe the rare homo vendus adverticus in its natural habitat. We’ve seen her take pretty extensive notes as she made her initial rounds, studying each of us with the cold, steely gaze of a surgeon, or a farmer.

So! Our brave Ms. Lunsford worked in ad sales in a newspaper for several years, before joining the media department for Sheehy + Associates–the Louisville ad agency that handles the Kroger account. She says that she left her hometown for her significant other, but we’re pretty sure that Sheehy just couldn’t handle the sheer awesome radiating from her office.

But their loss is our gain, as she’s joined our media department here on the ranch. As we’re (as in “us,” as in “I”, as in “the boy who is writing this entry”) part of the creative team, we’ve never been 100% sure what the media department does, except they make things WORK and they occasionally threaten us with bodily harm and they receive all the cool tchotchkes, while we only get artsy over-produced portfolio books and commemorative glasses. But the media department? They get CANDY. And TICKETS. And did we mention the CANDY?

Oh wait. Where were we? Right. Hi Brittney! We’re glad to have you here.

There have been many, many things happening ’round the farm these days. We have so much to tell you! We’re sorry we’ve been gone for so long. There’s new work, and a new hire, and a puppy or two, and even a few stories! To apologize for our long absence, please accept this video of a cat. Standing. In boots. Set to mariachi music.

Say hello to Austin! He used to study in a college where everyone has monogrammed initials on their jackets and at least three middle names. He majored in the classics, but he can’t speak a word of either Greek or Latin. Disappointing. Now he’s doing mechanicals, which essentially means that he assists our art directors with the daily grind of the day-to-day. We pay him in peanuts and hearty slaps on the back.

Okay, okay–technically, we hired him several months ago, but we love him so much that we felt like we needed to make another announcement on our new site. Because you can’t spell AWESOME without AUSTIN. Trust us on that.

Boo! Fail cat is not amused.

So. Temporarily, we’re hosting the blog portion of our site on a little address that we keep to show preview websites we make for our clients. We copped that unwieldy domain name from a band t-shirt once produced by an excellent band named Low. We love Low ’round here in the office. Well, our resident web monster loves Low, anyway.

You know who else loves Low? The writers of the award-winning British drama Skins. Great minds think alike, folks. Great minds think alike.
